Use words well

Rodney Ruff, Ruff Writer, United States of America
Fall in love with language. Develop a sense of not just the dictionary definitions of words, but their personal meanings and shades of meaning to different audiences. Understand the power of words to move people: to action, to tears, to laughter, to greater
knowledge, to give them encouragement and a sense of purpose. Use the power of imagery, simile and metaphor to create a verbal picture in the reader’s mind. Harness the sounds of those words when spoken to make them sing and make them live.

Bonus
Debbie here. In fact, let Microsoft Word help you. Highlight and right click a word, then select Synonyms and see if any of the suggested alternatives are a good replacement. Doing this for the word ‘descriptive’ gives you these alternate words: expressive, vivid, eloquent, colourful, evocative, explanatory and straightforward (antonym). Expressive
would have been a nice substitute, don’t you think?
