Marketing emails and newsletters. To PDF or not to PDF?

A PDF (Portable Document File) is used to keep formatting and graphics intact and allows documents to be opened by people who don’t have the software the original was created in. Plus, it compresses the file, reducing size.

Why sending newsletters and marketing emails as PDFs isn’t a good idea:

Recipients may not give you that extra click and the time required to open a file while they have so many other emails to go through.
PDFs do not read backwards. If your PDF is created on version 8, and your recipient has version 6, they can’t open your file.
Many people have problems printing PDFs.
Though compressed, the files are often still very large (flowing from the source documents having print quality images).
Many large corporations and government organisations strip attachments because of viruses.
