Loop your audience

A very useful state to create amongst your audience is one of anticipation or curiosity. Loops, questions (direct or rhetorical) and teasers achieve this effect. A loop is a statement that implies something to follow or sets a structure the listener can hang subsequent information onto in their heads.

Examples of loops:
‘There are three reasons ...’
‘In 30 seconds ...’
‘Previous audiences have told me that this next topic was the most important to them ...’
‘After the break, we’ll ...’
‘You don’t have to believe me now – you’ll see evidence of it later, when we ...’
