When you have to first go through a Personal Assistant to speak to the person you want, it is a good idea to start the conversation by saying your name and asking them how they are. You will have to tell them your name anyway, as they will want to pass it on or use it to screen calls. This enables you to sound friendly and confident, and increases the chances that the person you are calling will be told of your call in the most positive manner.

When phoning a manager in a company where you are unknown, say, ‘I understand you are the best person in the company who can help me with . . .’ Even if they are not, they’ll always pass the ball to someone who can.
